Hallo dear neighbours!
Please let me introduce myself in a few words: My name is Athanasios Kolokithas, I am a civil engineer, I live in Athens Greece and I have a RAV4 MK II MY2003 ( bought in July, just before the facelift ). We have our RAV4 club here: http://www.rav4club.gr , where we have already met your member "Cameo" 8-) . From time to time we are driving away from Athens to the countryside up to the mountains, in the mud or the snow having fun :yeeee:

I use a greek map product for my Samsung Q1 tablet pc for navigation in the mountains ( http://www.anavasi.gr )


I hope some day we shall meet and make a common drive up to the greek or italian mountains :cincin:

here are the modifications I have already done:
1. I've changed my 80-20Michelen tires to BFGoodrich AT (real 50-50) and I 've two sets of 4 alu wheels and 4 steel wheels that I want to put some mud tires on ( probably BFGoodrich KM2 ),
2. I've installed an alu skid plate under the front part of my RAV to protect the engine ,
3. I've replaced - as a proposal of both our club and Toyota Hellas - the schock absorbers and springs of the suspension with a set of new springs by Mad and schock absorbers by KAYABA. I 've also put a pair of spacers between the rear springs and the top mount. As a result I have some 3-4 cm higher car now.
4. I've bought an alu cargo basket for the roof where I : Builder : made and fixed a light bar, a shovel clamps system and a clamp system for the spare tire on the roof.

So, this is my :megaball: "Enterprise" :lol: :lol: :lol:

Your tyres are always 215/70 r16 or did you change the measure?

Hi Luca, thanks for your comments.Yes, my tires are still 215x70x16 but when I will buy mud tires for my spare sets of wheels ( I think they will be BFGoodrich KM II Mud Terain ) I wiil have to change dimensions a little bit to 225x70x16 ( http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direc ... ruck%2FSUV )

As far as i know there is no problem in using bigger tires, since they are "covered" by the "mud guard"( Fender Flares : http://jeephorizons.com/tech/zjflare.html ) around the wheels. That is why in bigger vehicles e.g. Jeep Wrangler where we usually meet 37" ( or even 40" ) tires they have to use extra big mud guards : http://www.toyota4x4.gr/viewtopic.php?f ... 7&start=90

In Italy law don't permit to exceed +/- 10% of total circumference of the wheel :x
We can change all dimensions but not circumference.
For example, i got 255/45-18...they are the same as 235/45-16 in circumference 8-)

My rav is similar to yours. Not the "sol" model with 235/60 16, but the basis model probably called "luna" with 215/70. So i decided to change the measure 3 years ago, to homologate a new measure (235/60 r16) and to mantain the 215/70 for the all-terrain tyres and for the winter-tyres. I also repainted my original wheels. If you go to the section of the forum called "il mio rav4", you'll find some photos of my blue rav4.
For my 215/70 I've choosen the Yokohama Geolandar at+II, which I installed as I repainted my wheels. On the 235/60 are now installed 4 beautiful Michelin Latitude HP.
